Salts Worldwide is Corrupt
Just when you thought the world of kosher certification couldnt get any worse, here comes coarse kosher certification. As a non-kosher food processor, you need to pay attention to this company and its accreditation. Ill explain why. Lets look at the company, Salts Worldwide, and how the salting process works.
First, consider the definition of coarse kosher as The defining ingredient of any kosher product is coarse kosher salt, generally found in the products that do not undergo salting. This description can be applied to a wide variety of kosher products.
For example, a Kosher brine solution would be coarse kosher salt, like kosher salt. Kosher pasta sauce would contain kosher salt. And most of the products used in the food industry would be coarse kosher salt.
If you go down to the store and see all the products with kosher salted lard in them, youre looking at a kosher product. The company that made those products used coarse kosher salt to make it kosher.
Now, another example would be kosher mayonnaise. A Kosher company could produce the mayonnaise and add it to foods that didnt have kosher mayonnaise, like whipped cream. They also would add other ingredients that fit their labels, like antioxidants, or fragrance.
But the kosher certification company is different. They would test products that are used in the food industry to make sure they didnt contain any refined or reconstituted kosher salt.
Once the products were kosher, they would stamp them Kosher on the labels to indicate that the ingredients in the product were coarse kosher salt. The net result is that even if there were no other ingredients or components, the product would still be kosher. Kosher certified salt is now a top choice for many kosher consumers. But you have to understand the meaning of coarse kosher salt. There are three important rules.
If youre not Kosher, you wont qualify for kosher certification. Kosher products must be made from Kosher salt, be certified kosher, and they must be kosher. You cant use a Kosher salt substitute or Kosher salt that is reconstituted. Kosher salt has to be coarse kosher salt.
Kosher salt is made by crushing the salt and dissolving it into a liquid solution of non-iodized salt. This is what coarse kosher salt is made from.
When Kosher salt is processed into a coarse kosher salt solution, it takes a little bit more than one teaspoon of kosher salt per gallon of water. With this extra kosher salt, the resulting kosher salt is less refined and more natural. So theres something to say about the size of the kosher salt shaker.
